The North Oldham Mustangs, picked last in their district last season due to a high degree of youthful inexperience, instead surprised all and went undefeated in district play as they won their second district title in three seasons. North ultimately advanced all the way to the school's first-ever appearance in a regional final, where they lost to eventual state champion Central, 32-14.
Despite the sophomore-dominated offensive line, the Mustangs rushed for a school record 3,200+ yards on the ground on the season, led by junior tailback Zach Evans, who set a individual school single-season rushing mark, despite missing some games due to injury.
The Mustangs open the 2011 season with a familiar foe, the Henry County Wildcats, who have been a district rival for the past few years. North has played Henry County more times than any other school; the Wildcats lead the series, 6-3, but North has won 2 of the last three, including a 24-9 shocker last year on Henry's field in New Castle.
The Wildcats have endured a revolving door at the head coach position of late, but despite three head coaches in the past four seasons, Henry County has still won 32 games during that time. After a 7-4 record was widely considered as a slight disappointment last year, the Wildcats look to rebound a bit in 2011 behind new coach Jason Spencer.
